Story Tellers Outside!
With the success of Story Tellers Online and the Online Library, there was keen appetite to hold a Story Tellers group in person! With the Covid-19 restrictions lifting on meeting in groups outdoors, we decided to take Story Tellers outside! We wanted to invite families to consolidate the fun and learning they had through the online groups, and to take this further by providing even more opportunities to read together, have positive and constructive time together as families and build on their literacy skills.
The Story Tellers Outside project has run weekly in two locations - Bramley and Beeston. Families have come along to read stories together, play reading comprehension games and quizzes and create characters from the stories through crafts! The families have engaged well and often commented on how much they enjoy the group! One parent who completed Story Tellers Online with her children and then joined the outdoor group told us: ‘I have six children and going to the library is stressful because I don’t know where to start and which books to choose. Story Tellers helps because they are really nice books and they are chosen for me! We can sit and read them together and it’s helped us read more together as a family.’ We are so pleased with how Story Tellers has evolved and adapted through the lockdown months in order to help families in this way!
