Lockdown Love: Community care during the crisis
Here at Flourishing Families our regular projects are all on hold, but there is still plenty going on. Over the last few weeks we have been providing food shopping for families, some of whom literally had no essentials in the house. These include families who are having to self-isolate and those who were on zero-hour contracts and are now having to wait before receiving any benefit payments. Our partnerships with primary schools are proving invaluable – family support teams are able to keep us informed about needs of our families, which we can respond to quickly. Often our food deliveries have included simplified recipes for healthy meals during lockdown life, and the corresponding ingredients to cook with. Seeing a familiar face at the garden gate is also a cheerful experience during times like this.
As well as basic food shopping, we've also been working in partnership with schools to give out fun craft packs for children to do at home such as jewellery-making, sun catchers, foil engraving, paint by numbers and make-your-own greeting card packs full of crafty bits and pieces. Let's keep the creativity flowing!
